Exam question

Why did the mormans move west in the 1840's?

There are a few reasons for the mormans moveing west but one of the main reasons was that the Mormons were hated because non-Mormons disliked that they could have more than one wife, people were afraid of the large and growing numbers of the Mormons; people disliked the fact that they encourage slaves and freed the slaves to join them as Mormons.  They wanted religious freedom and to be able to live in peace a know that non mormans will come and destroy or take over their property and kick them out of their homes and towns so if they did move to salt lake city then they will have peace and freedom in their reglion and towns. One of the first Mormon settlements was Ohio, but were driven out because the bank what Joseph Smith had made went bankrupt which upset the non mormons because they lost money so the non mormons drivent the mormons out of their homes and out of Ohio.

Joseph Smith tried to run for President of the U.S.A, which annoyed hundreds of americans for if he succeeded america would be a mormon country. The last straw was when Joseph Smith said that certain mormons were aloud to conduct polygamy, this was the turning point for Mormons for non Mormons and christians believed that polygamy is forbidden and they were people conducting polygamy. Hundreds of people created a Mob which struck Nauvoo and drove them out, many mormons were killed including Joseph Smith.

After Joseph Smiths death Brigham Young took over who made the decision to go west to salt lake city in 1847 which he took over 16,000 Mormons across the plains to salt lake city which was part of Mexico until it was took over by America.

Practise Exam question

2a the great plains are very hot with little vegetation or wild life there is also very little water. It was located in the middle of America. Although there wasn’t much wild life there were millions of buffalo. The plains where mainly sand which is why there was nearly no vegetation and because vegetation couldn’t grow very well there is why there isn’t much wild life. There was also very strong winds and other weathers such as heavy snowing and the weather never stays the same. White people said that the plains were unfit to live in because there is little water to drink no soil just sand so they could not farm and no wood so they could not make houses.

2b the Indians lived in tipies because they are the best are probably the best protection they had on the plains because of the resources they need was easy because tipies require little wood and the rest is mainly made from buffalo skins. Also because of the conal shape it has strong winds gales or sand storms would blow round the rather blow them over.
